September 21, 2009. On September 23, my telephone seminar, SWINE FLU AND VACCINE DANGERS, takes place. You can still sign up. Just click on banner above, or go to my site, www.nomorefakenews.com and sign up there.

I write this brief backgrounder to show you how the government can issue “an absolute truth” and then, later, drop it like a hot potato.

Why is this important? Because the American people tend to believe everything the government says about medical matters. When it comes to war, and the reasons for waging it, and when it comes to legislation, and the reasons for passing it, the public may have developed a healthy suspicion---but medical issues are leaves on the tree of a modern Religion---and citizens are quite gullible.

Back in 2003, you might remember there was a smallpox scare. We were told an epidemic might be coming, and to prepare for it, all Americans needed to take a vaccine. Millions could die otherwise. It was a very big deal.

Tommy Thompson, Bush’s head of Health and Human Services, was adamant. He made the famous quote: “Everyone in the US will have a vaccine vial with his name written on it.”

There was a major---and completely failed---attempt to set up vaccine centers all over the US. The logistics of giving a few hundred million vaccine shots were, as it turned out, staggering.

Nevertheless, President Bush, to lead the way, did a photo op in the White House. A doctor gave him a shot in the arm.

The CDC was approached by doctors who questioned the safety of the vaccine. These doctors stated that, for many people, particularly those whose immune systems were already compromised, the vaccine could be dangerous. It could bring on a full-blown case of smallpox. And of course, there are millions of people in the US who, for various reasons, do have weak immune systems.

At first, the CDC held firm. It said it would vaccinate across the board, and no one would be disqualified from receiving the shot.

The American people were treated to one absolute statement after another, from the government, about the need to take the vaccine. The government was sure. The threat was dire. The need was great. The safety and security of the whole country were on the line. An epidemic was on the way, and we had to protect ourselves from it.

Then the position began to erode. Health workers, who would be giving the shots and dealing with patients, began to refuse the vaccine themselves. Oops. What was going on there? What did these health workers know?

Doctors outside the government orbit began speaking up and writing about their concerns. The smallpox vaccine would be dangerous to a lot of people, they said.

On February 20, 2003, the Associated Press reported: “Majority of Philadelphia hospitals won’t vaccinate for smallpox.” “A majority of Philadelphia’s 26 hospitals will not participate in a smallpox vaccination program, officials said. Jeff Moran, a spokesman for the city Department of Public Health, said most of the city’s hospitals did not plan to vaccinate until there was evidence of an outbreak of smallpox in the United States. The reluctance of local hospitals is in line with national reaction to the national government’s smallpox vaccination plan. In recent weeks, opposition has been growing…”

Birmingham News, 2/19. “Only nine workers within the Jefferson County Health Department were scheduled to get vaccinations….not one hospital in the county has joined the program and allowed workers to be vaccinated.”

California hospitals defected, too.

The whole national vaccine program was crumbling.

Soon, even Bush’s director of Health and Human Services, the above-mentioned Tommy Thompson, was singing a different tune. He stated he would not recommend that any Bush cabinet members take the vaccine. He, Tommy, was not going to take it. In fact, the government was not recommending that ANYONE take it.

A complete turnaround.

No mea culpas, though.

No “we were wrong” statements from Tommy Thompson.

Within a few days, the entire smallpox vaccine plan and program disappeared.

First, “The sky is falling. We’re all going to die. We have to take the vaccine.”

Then, “Sky? Falling? Die? Vaccine? I’m sorry, I don’t know what you’re referring to.”

And the major press outlets didn’t play this up like the incredible scandal it was. The press seemed, by and large, to develop the same kind of amnesia the government did.

And finally, of course, the epidemic of smallpox never arrived.

There wasn’t any.

This is all part of the record, and yet, once again, as we face another “catastrophe” vis-à-vis the Swine Flu, and as the government makes one dire warning after another, the press, the public, and the government are still suffering from amnesia about the last great effort to have the whole country vaccinated.

There are many ways to stifle public debate on an issue, but it’s hard to beat the absence of memory as a factor in inducing total gullibility, over and over and over.

I hope you’ll be in the seminar.
